Looking to join a choir?
Nottingham Chamber Singers is an adventurous choir that sings to a high standard and enjoys a laugh! The choir is part of the Music for Everyone family of vocal groups, bands and orchestras, which adds a unique dimension to their music making.
“A wonderful celebration of 40 years of excellent singing from a wide repertoire of music. What a gift to have such a choir in our region.”
Taster sessions
Come for a sing!
Wednesdays in term time, 7.30-9.45pm, St Luke’s Church, Leahurst Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 6GL
Do you enjoy singing in a four (sometimes eight or more) part choir and performing in concerts? Can you read music and make a reasonable go of singing through a new piece? Would you like to find new friends who share your enjoyment of choral music, secular and sacred?
If yes, we think you might enjoy Nottingham Chamber Singers. Come to a few of our rehearsals and sing along with us – no obligation.
Email us with the dates of a couple of Wednesday evenings when you’re free, let us know if you usually sing soprano, alto, tenor or bass, and we’ll do the rest: Email: ncs@music-for-everyone.org
After you’ve been for up to three weeks, you can let us know if you’d like to hear about our joining process, which includes a brief, relaxed audition.
Take a look at our ‘What’s on’ page for a flavour of the choral music we enjoy.
Singers we’re looking for
“There was a terrific audience and a general atmosphere of pleasure.”
We look for voices that blend and people who are reliable and enthusiastic.
The ask is attendance at as many Wednesday evening rehearsals (term time only) as possible and participation in our four concerts.
Joining NCS (as we are known for short) includes membership of Music for Everyone. Singing in MfE’s Nottingham Festival Chorus (NFC) course and concert and the Christmas concert at the Albert Hall is encouraged, but we do understand that some people’s lives are busier than others.
In some seasons we have the opportunity to perform as a semi-chorus if the work chosen for NFC needs one – this was how we came into existence!
We offer a rehearsal schedule and, when available, rehearsal tracks.
Above all, we love people who muck in, attend regularly, offer their skills and get on well with others. We don’t have a committee, we do it together.
Subs etc
We never want financial circumstances to exclude anyone from singing in NCS.
Standard subs for 2025/26: £16.75 per month, usually paid by standing order – less than two takeaway coffees per week!
Students and those in receipt of means-tested benefit e.g., tax credits, universal credit and pension credit: £8.25 a month, usually by standing order.
AND Music for Everyone runs a subsidised scheme for anyone who needs it. Just ask/email us.
Rehearsals, concerts, tuition during rehearsals, membership of both NCS and Music for Everyone, MfE Musicals, choral workshops and courses (except the Summer School) are all included in our subs. This means you can experience singing in both small and larger choirs and enjoy a variety of styles of music.
We ask for a small contribution to our vital tea and biscuit supplies. Sometimes there are minimal library hire charges and a few other low-cost items.
When possible, we share lifts to save costs and the planet.
What we wear
For concerts, it’s usually black with a splash of aqua or teal. Sometimes a plain coloured top instead of black.
