We have three spaces at present.

Please contact us – email address below. We will then arrange for you to attend a rehearsal and, if you like us, audition. The informal audition will be either the following Wednesday or the next convenient Wednesday. If a section is full currently, we offer a waiting list.

Music for Everyone, of which we are part, offers a range of other choral opportunities – Daytime and Lunchtime Voices, Nottingham Festival Chorus, choral workshops and courses, and a highly regarded August Summer School. Click here for details of these groups and events.

Singers we’re looking for

If you have a pleasing voice that blends with our sound, if you’re reliable and enthusiastic, can attend nearly every term-time Wednesday rehearsal and sing in about six concerts each season, you’re just the person we’re looking for. Here’s what our seasons look like:

  • Four Nottingham Chamber Singers’ concerts – autumn, Christmas, spring, summer. On concert weekends we also rehearse on the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.
  • Music for Everyone’s Christmas is Coming family concert (daytime Sunday) – performing on our own and with others.
  • Nottingham Festival Chorus course and Nottingham Albert Hall concert (last weekend of January and first Saturday of February) as semi-chorus, supportive choir and sometimes on our own.
  • Other Music for Everyone choral course and workshops welcome our participation but are optional. All except the Summer School are included in NCS subs/membership.

You might be glad to know that we rarely ‘note bash’ in rehearsals. Reasonable sight reading ability and willingness to learn at home go down well. Sometimes we sing two or three to a part, so being comfortable to sing out and hold a line is welcome.

We also love people who muck in, offer their skills and get on well with others. We don’t have a committee, we do it together.

When and where we rehearse and perform

Rehearsals: every Wednesday evening (7.30pm – 9.45pm) in school term-time at St Luke’s Church, Leahurst Rd, West Bridgford, NG2 6GL

Concerts: held in different venues, mainly Nottingham or greater Nottingham, usually Saturday evenings, occasionally Sunday afternoons.

Subs and other costs

NCS subs for 2024/25 = £195. This can be paid as £16.25 per month – less than two takeaway coffees per week! For students and benefit claimants, eg tax credits, universal credit, pension credit, it’s £96 per year or £8 per month. BUT we don’t anyone to be excluded from NCS because of their financial circumstances and there is a subsidised scheme available for any who need it. Just ask.

Rehearsals, concerts, tuition during rehearsals, membership of NCS AND Music for Everyone, many music copies plus MfE day or weekend choral courses and performances (except the Summer School) are all included in our subs.

We ask for a small contribution to our vital tea and biscuit supplies. Sometimes there are minimal library hire charges and a few other low-cost items.

When possible, we share lifts to save costs and the planet.

Concert Dress

Usually black with a splash of aqua or teal. White or coloured tops sometimes.

How do I join?

Drop an email to ncs@music-for-everyone.org to arrange a date to rehearse with us. If you then feel we could be the choir for you, we will arrange an audition date.

Auditions are nice and relaxed, at 7.00pm before a rehearsal, and with Angela or Rachel and an accompanist. We aren’t looking for exceptional voices, rather for voices that blend with our NCS sound. You’ll sing something of your own choice – it doesn’t have to be complicated and can be from a choral work rather than a solo piece – plus a few other short exercises and a short piece of sight reading which will be given to you to look at for a few minutes before the audition.

I’m a detail person, tell me more!

Gladly! Our in-house detail people have written EVERYTHING down. Request our Comprehensive Info Sheet when you get in touch.

Alternatively, quiz a current singer over a cuppa when you visit.

Additional information

We didn’t want this site to be an information overload, so if you have any questions either email us or have a chat with us when you come to a rehearsal.
